The advent of automatic monitoring instruments and powerful computer simulation models has resulted in massive volumes of data that have the potential to transform our understanding of the complex processes that make up Earth’s environment. The Environmental Statistics Lab at NCSU aims to tackle the challenging problems required to extract knowledge from environmental data, including modeling of spatiotemporal processes, computational methodology for handling massive datasets, and theory to support methodological development and statistical inference.

Lab members engage in collaborations in many areas of environmental science including: hurricane forecasting; soil chemistry; ecology; health impacts of air pollution; and analysis of climate and weather model output.
